Every precious minute counts when working with a child with a learning disability. You certainly don’t want to overwhelm him with any more than they can handle at any given time, but you also don’t want to waste time on content that the child shows mastery in on a continual basis. Teaching in a prescriptive and diagnostic manner ensures that each child’s needs are best met while allowing the teacher to make informed decisions based on performance and progress. This is a part of the Orton Gillingham Approach to teaching in a Multisensory manner.
